Dans une première partie, une modélisation empirique est proposée, dans laquelle les quartiers sont caractérisés non seulement par des variables concernant le logement et la population, mais également par des variables concernant les politiques. Les résultats concernant particulièrement les quartiers d'avant-guerre sont développés. Dans une seconde partie l'étude porte sur les effets d'un changement de la structure de la population sur l'environnement résidentiel dans deux quartiers d'avant-guerre de Rotterdam. Les relations entre les changements de la structure de la population et l'implantation d'équipements publics et commerciaux sont étudiées à l'aide de données statistiques. Une enquête a été menée auprès de 750 habitants des deux quartiers, en distinguant les anciens et les nouveaux habitants, au sujet de leur insertion dans leur quartier. Les plans d'urbanisme pourraient tirer profit des modèles empiriques de mobilité résidentielle présentés dans la première partie, qui pourraient servir de base pour des systèmes experts. Geographic variations of unemployment. Unemployment rates differ among the 95 departments of France, and so do the structures of unemployment. Departments have been grouped in ten regional types, each one characterized by a particular pattern of unemployment. The analysis first contrasts areas of high unemployment with areas of low unemployment; second, urban areas, favourable to young women, with rural areas; third areas of the North, unfavourable to the young under twenty, with areas of the South. Considering diplomas for the 17-30 years old strengthens the typology, and shows that the protection against unemployment offered by diplomas is different among regions and much is stronger in the North than in the South. The historical and structural dimensions of the social differentiation of urban space: the case of Brussels. The historical dimension of residential space describes the present-day situation in terms of historical forms of organisation of urban space. These forms have changed with the mode of reproduction of the labour force during the three periods of economic growth since the industrial revolution. The structural dimension refers to the organisation and functioning of the housing market, which assign a location within this differentiated urban space to the households. These two dimensions explain the correspondence between household and housing characteristics in urban space. If the residential mobility of the inhabitants of the French main towns seems to have been the same approximately during the last intercensal period as between 1968 and 1975, the intra-urban mobility alone was somewhat reduced while the migratory balance fell. The values are very variable here and there and the order has changed. The first investigations into the characteristics of the populations concerned reveal very contrasted age structures for each population category and a certain specificity according to each agglomeration. The contrasts in the socio-professional structures are less marked. At last, it appears that these intra-urban migrations have a particular social and psychological meaning.
