<text>This contribution presents the way we use the concept of ambience and the method of "commented walk" with the intention of comprehending the expectations that two ecological neighborhood users have of the space they live in. We call these expectations "expected space". Our main key to access it is the collection of perceptions and evaluations of the lived space during commented walks. The hypothesis we work on is that people judge the space they live in by comparing what they perceive with what they expect. By asking people about their perception and judgment of their everyday environment, we are able to understand the reference and representations they use to judge, in other words the "expected space".</text>

<text><div><b>Abstract from the publisher:</b></div> &nbsp;</div> Growing urbanization affects women and men in fundamentally different ways, but the relationship between gender and city environments has been ignored or misunderstood. Women and men play different roles, frequent different public areas, and face different health risks. Women suffer disproportionately from disease, injury, and violence because their access to resources is often more limited than that of their male counterparts. Yet, when women are healthy and safe, so are their families and communities. Urban policy makers and public health professionals need to understand how conditions in densely populated places can help or harm the well-being of women in order to serve this large segment of humanity.<br /> <br /> Women's Health and the World's Cities illuminates the intersection of gender, health, and urban environments. This collection of essays examines the impact of urban living on the physical and psychological states of women and girls in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the United States. Urban planners, scholars, medical practitioners, and activists present original research and compelling ideas. They consider the specific needs of subpopulations of urban women and evaluate strategies for designing spaces, services, and infrastructure in ways that promote women's health. Women's Health and the World's Cities provides urban planners and public health care providers with on-the-ground examples of projects and policies that have changed women's lives for the better.</div> &nbsp;</div> <b>Afaf Ibrahim Meleis</b> is Margaret Bond Simon Dean of Nursing and Professor of Nursing and Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and the author of Theoretical Nursing: Development and Progress.<br /> <b>Eugenie L. <text><div><b>Abstract from the publisher : </b></div> &nbsp;</div> Berlin, Budapest, Prague, and Warsaw are cities indelibly marked by more than forty years of Soviet influence. Urban Cultures in (Post) Colonial Central Europe explores the ways in which these major urban centers have redefined their identities in the last two decades. The author suggests that they are both Central European and (post) colonial spaces and that the locations of their (post)coloniality can be found predominantly in communicative and media processes and their results in architecture, film, literature, and new media.<br /> <br /> Agata Anna Lisiak analyzes Berlin, Budapest, Prague, and Warsaw as (post)colonial cities because their politics, cultures, societies, and economies have been shaped by two centers of power: the Soviet Union as the former colonizer, whose influence remains visible predominantly in architecture, infrastructure, social relations, and mentalities, and the Western culture and the Western and/or global capital as the current colonizer, whose impact extends over virtually all spheres of urban life. The cities discussed are not exclusively postcolonial or solely colonial: they are &ldquo;in-between&rdquo; the two predicaments and, hence, are best described as (post)colonial. The (post)colonial and &ldquo;in-between peripheral&rdquo; identities and locations of the Central European capitals complement each other, and their analysis provides a relevant perspective on the transformation processes that have been shaping the region after 1989.</div> &nbsp;</div> <b>Agata Anna Lisiak</b> completed her PhD in 2009 in communication and media studies at the University of Halle-Wittenberg. Most recently, she completed a post-doctoral fellowship in urban studies at the National Sun Yat-sen University where her research extended to Asian port cities.</div> &nbsp;</div> </text>
