Pendant plus d’un mois, tous les soirs, les journaux télévisés montraient des jeunes en train de brûler des voitures et de "caillasser" les forces de l’ordre, et ceci dans toute la France. Sous prétexte de respecter les identités, les visages floutés et encapuchonnés rendaient les jeunes encore plus menaçants. The papers in this issue share a desire to move beyond the monolithic understanding of the creative city. Each contributes new empirical evidence that nuances the specificity of cities, cultures and societies/communities. Moreover, by using different disciplinary starting points and methods of enquiry to investigate different cases, locations, and scales, the papers in this special issue provide diffrerent pieces of the same puzzle.</div>
</div>
Drawing on approaches from Sociology, Urban Planning, and Economic Geography each paper uses one or more specific cases as the grounding framework for a bigger and broader discussion. These range from looking at specific occupations and/or industries to various neighbourhood and regional development projects ranging from the micro to the mega. Discussions encompassing both formal and informal approaches and even a little 'guerrilla' public art are presented. More specifically, the cases are based on research in San Francisco, Berlin, Totonto, New York City, Los Angeles, Omaha, Montreal, and Vancouver.</div>

Ce recueil d'articles offre une série d'études nouvelles sur les lieux et les objets d'une rencontre entre l'architecture et la littérature du XIXe au XXIe siècle. Il associe étroitement les études littéraires et les études d'architectes. Il s'intéresse ainsi successivement à la représentation littéraire de la ruine, de la tour sous ses différentes formes (château, tour d'habitation, grands ensembles...), mais aussi aux espaces déterritorialisés ou en cours de reterritorialisation des zones urbaines actuelles.</div>
</div>
La présente publication fait donc alterner les études de types (la ruine, la tour), de lieux réels (le quartier du Val d'Europe...) ou fictifs (La Tourgue), et les analyses questionnant l'usage de la fiction en architecture, la perception de l'architecture dans son effacement (la ruine) ou dans la verticalité de son édification (la tour). Cet ouvrage particulièrement stimulant propose donc une problématisation des liens entre l'architecture et la littérature en s'intéressant non seulement à la représentation littéraire de l'architecture mais aussi à sa fonction symbolique, esthétique, à sa valeur anthropologique et aux diverses modalités de sa perception.</div>

La qualité de vie des habitants d’un territoire repose sur de nombreux éléments, en partie subjectifs. L’accès à des équipements et services, qu’ils soient de proximité ou de rayonnement plus important, en est une composante importante. Cette notion d’équipements et de services à la population a émergé dès le Moyen Age et a vu son champ de définition s’élargir au fur et à mesure que le paysage urbain s’est développé. Participant à la construction et à la structuration des villes, les équipements ont ainsi acquis au cours de l’histoire une véritable "fonction urbaine" qu’ils conservent encore aujourd’hui.</div>

L’Ile-de-France est richement dotée en équipements et services et dispose, du fait de son statut de métropole, de très nombreux équipements de rayonnement national ou international. Elle n’en connaît pas moins de fortes disparités, aussi bien quantitatives que qualitatives, dans la répartition de cette offre, notamment celle de proximité, et dans son accessibilité. La diversité des besoins de la population et ses éventuelles difficultés à accéder aux équipements nécessitent une réflexion élargie intégrant toutes les dimensions de l’accessibilité (économique, socio-culturelle et cognitive notamment).</div>

En 2008, le numéro d’Espace Populations Sociétés, consacré aux "nouvelles mobilités dans l’Europe élargie", focalisait l’attention sur les migrations internationales engendrées par l’arrivée de dix pays supplémentaires dans l’Union européenne. Tout en mettant en lumière l’augmentation des flux de migrants internationaux entre l’est et l’ouest du continent, il insistait sur l’existence d’une Europe "migrante" où vivre dans la mobilité apparaît comme constitutif des modes de vie. Ce double numéro de la revue Espace Populations Sociétés lui vient en écho et fait le point sur les mobilités dans les Suds, non pas pour comparer les hémisphères et les continents entre eux mais pour rappeler que celles-ci, massives et variées, sont à la fois originales et partie prenante ou interrogatrices de la mondialisation à l’oeuvre.</div>

Plusieurs communes françaises se sont lancées dans la construction d'éco-quartiers intégrant des objectifs de qualité environnementale. Ce dossier présente des exemples d'éco-quartiers réalisés en France, mais aussi en Allemagne, en Suède ou aux Pays-Bas, pays pionniers en la matière. <br />

Comment sont montés et conduits ces projets ? Comment sont-ils évalués ? De quelle façon s'inscrivent-ils dans l'objectif plus large du développement durable ? Quel est le rôle de l'État en la matière (Grenelle de l'Environnement ...) ? Telles sont les questions abordées dans ce numéro, à travers les positions diverses des professionnels (chercheurs, aménageurs, architectes, urbanistes...) ou des champs disciplinaires spécifiques (géographie, sociologie, design, architecte...) ; à travers également les exemples étrangers, analysés par des chercheurs ou des experts, puis ceux des projets français, présentés par leurs promoteurs ou par des observateurs extérieurs. <br />

<div>Le numéro 376 de Juillet-Août 2010 de la revue Urbanisme consacre un dossier au thème "Aires numériques"<br /> <br /> <b>Extrait de l'éditorial de Thierry Paquot :</b><br /> <br /> L’ère du numérique façonne des aires qui contribuent au monde que chacun se construit, en permanence, pour exister (d’où des sociabilités virtuelles inédites favorisées par les réseaux sociaux, Facebook, par exemple). Ces aires numériques sont spatio-temporelles. En effet, elles s’inscrivent dans de nouvelles temporalités (l’instant, la simultanéité, la programmation différée…) qui confèrent à la géographie d’autres épaisseurs que la distance mesurée par le temps nécessaire à la parcourir à pied ou en voiture, rendant proche ce qui est effectivement loin en kilomètres et inversement… Ces aires numériques ne sont ni définitives dans leurs formes comme dans leurs usages, ni généralisables partout. Elles sont sujettes aux modifications technologiques et aussi et surtout à ce que les utilisateurs attendent d’elles.
